AHDRA race sanctioning body consists of 16
different classes. All AHDRA riders are required to have a valid AHDRA
Competition License. In 2008, Red Dragon Racing began competing in the: Pro-Stock Class: Reserved for stock appearing, carbureted, Buell, XL,
VR and FX based motorcycles with frame & tire restrictions. 160ci
limit. Minimum weight at conclusion of run is 550 pounds including
rider. Pro-Modified Class: Reserved for legal and street legal based
Buell, XL and FX model motorcycles.
Both are Pro class division, and unlike previous
seasons under the rules of Elapsed Time (ET) index racing of the Sportsman classes, Red Dragon Racing will
now be competing
head-to-head, fastest to the finish line.
How Is Gowanda
Harley-Davidson Involved? Gowanda Harley-Davidson became a team sponsor in 2005. Since, the
dealership has played a vital role in the continuous maintenance, research
and development, and tuning of the team's three Sportsman class drag bikes.
Work continues in 2008 with maintaining and building up of the Pro class drag
bikes, plus freshening up the Sportsman class bikes for some local racing.
"We're proud to be associated with Red Dragon
Racing," says Gowanda H-D Service Mngr., Shawn Mowry. "The Screamin'
Eagle Dyna Wide Glide that Red Dragon Racing started out with is still my
favorite. This bike runs great and we have duplicated the engine in
several customers' street bikes with great success. The experience we
have gained with Red Dragon Racing and AHDRA goes directly into the
performance work we do everyday for our customers."
December 2008 - All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) team, Red Dragon
Racing, from Irving, New York completed their first season in the Pro
Classes with outstanding results. Team racer, Bruce Chandler clinched first
place Eastern Division, third place National, in the Pro Modified division.
Owner and racer, K.W. Seneca finished third place Eastern Division, fifth
place National in Pro Stock.
“We are extremely proud of Red Dragon Racing’s accomplishments in 2008,”
says Gowanda Harley-Davidson Service Manager, Shawn Mowry. “Working with a
pro AHDRA team brings a wealth of race track proven experience and
excitement to our Service Department.” Gowanda Harley-Davidson has been a
primary sponsor of the team since 2005.
“Being our first year in the Pro classes, we reached new milestones at every
event,” remarks Seneca. “Best of all there’s no more slowing down. No more
looking over your shoulder.” Under the Elapsed Time rules of the Sportsman
classes the team was competing in since 2004, racers are disqualified for
reaching the finish line faster than the time index allowed. The rule is
designed to bring closer competition between the teams. Due to the
performance of their Sportsman class drag bikes however, it took a
tremendous amount of skill from Seneca and Chandler to check their lead, cut
the throttle and purposely slow down. In the Pro classes, fastest bike takes
all. “You become more focused [in the Pro classes],” says Bruce Chandler.
“There’s a lot more happening between events too,” continues Chandler.
“Every inch of the bikes are gone over. There’s more travel and logistics.
We’re constantly in touch with each other going over race video, technical
data and bouncing new ideas off each other.”
Competition at the track is even more intense when race weekend comes
around. “It’s a huge challenge that brings a whole new level of technology,”
comments team technician, Tony Koch. “There’s a data gathering computer on
the Pro Stock bike. Between every race you’re evaluating data, then
adjusting the bike to extract every possible bit of power and traction. Even
the slightest change can make all the difference in determining who reaches
the finish line first.”
Red Dragon Racing’s most memorable event happened at the Ohio Bike Week
Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio last June. Considered to be the team’s hometown
track, several local fans witnessed Bruce Chandler’s first run to the Pro
Modified finals. At the end of the season, it was the results from that
event that broke an Eastern Division points tie and awarded Chandler the
championship.
The 2009 AHDRA season gets underway at the Screamin’ Eagle Bike Week
Nationals on Feb. 28, 2009. During the off-season Red Dragon Racing is
freshening and tuning the race engines on both the Pro Stock and Pro
Modified bikes. “Both classes are going to be tight next year,” says Seneca.
“There will be more teams in the Pro Stock class and the Pro Modified class
gets ever more competitive.” Despite the competitive nature of motorcycle
drag racing, “everyone looks out for each other. There’s great relationships
and camaraderie among the Pro teams,” concludes Koch.
Red Dragon Racing is sponsored by Gowanda Harley-Davidson, Seneca Niagara

June 14 – 15, 2008 [Gowanda, NY] - In their
debut Pro Stock and Pro Modified division season, All Harley Drag Racing
Association (AHDRA) team Red Dragon Racing, from the Seneca Nation
Territory, made their most impressive runs to date at the Roeder
Harley-Davidson Ohio Bike Week Nationals on June 14 & 15, 2008.
Taking place in Norwalk, OH, the Ohio Bike
Week Nationals are the closest AHDRA event to Red Dragon Racing’s hometown
and team sponsors Gowanda Harley-Davidson, Seneca Niagara Casino, Pa-Pa’s
Place I & II, and Haley’s Auto Shop. In attendance were fans from the
Southern Tier, NY Chapter of the Harley Owners Group and staff members of
Gowanda Harley-Davidson. “It was great to ride down to Ohio and spend a
weekend in the race pits with Red Dragon Racing,” says Brian LeBarron of
Gowanda Harley-Davidson. “This is extreme racing! Two wheels, no role
cage, no safety harness, first to the finish line. For Kevin and Bruce of
Red Dragon Racing to lay down on top of 200hp of v-twin power and blast down
the half-mile at speeds over 150mph takes concentration and nerves of
steel.” AHDRA is considered to be the most fan friendly racing sport as
spectators are allowed open access to the pit area, the opportunity to visit
with the teams and close views of the action.
Team owner and racer, K.W. Seneca, from
Irving, New York, races the Pro Stock class bike. Qualifying 3rd
in class with a best 8.629 second pass at 154.07mph, Seneca entered the
first round of Eliminations against Jordan Cruz. Seneca took a quick jump
at the light and sailed into the quarter finals. In round two up against 3rd
place Pro Stock points leader, Greg Krenik, Seneca put up a battle and lost
by only 0.21 of a second with another great pass of 8.548sec at 153.60mph.
K.W. Seneca currently ranks 5th in the
national Pro Stock points race and 3rd in the eastern division,
with half the season still remaining.
“The first year [in the Pro classes] is like
starting all over,” comments Seneca. “There’s a whole new learning curve to
overcome. We’re going to do whatever it takes to get the job done.”
Teammate, Bruce Chandler of Rock Hill, North
Carolina, is on the Red Dragon Racing AHDRA Pro Modified class bike.
Qualifying in the number five spot, Chandler entered Eliminations in a very
strategic position. Whoever in their bracket won the quarter finals would
earn a bye into the Pro Mod final. Round one; despite a slower reaction
time, Chandler raced past T.L. Fields to take the win with a 9.149 second
pass at 146.88mph. Round two; against new-comer
M. Straubel with the starting line advantage, Chandler quickly caught
up to take the win, and the bye into the finals. Final round; head-to-head
against first place Pro Modified points leader, Greg Krenik, Chandler took
the jump ahead at the line and put down a very close race, loosing by only
0.328 seconds as Krenik retook the lead. The trip to the finals puts Bruce
Chandler and Red Dragon Racing in the number three position in the Pro
Modified national points race and 2nd in the eastern division.
“We’re proud to support Red Dragon Racing,”
continues LeBarron. “AHDRA is the proving ground in Harley-Davidson
motorcycle performance. We’ve created several customer owned quality
performance packages based on our experience with Red Dragon Racing.”
Red Dragon Racing returns home in July for a
mid-season break and dyno tuning time at Gowanda Harley-Davidson. Stay
tuned for a Meet & Greet announcement and the chance to see some of the
fastest, highest horsepower bikes in Western New York and the owners who
race them. Show your support for Red Dragon Racing as they enter the back
half of the All Harley Drag Racing Association season. For team pictures

Gowanda, New York (January
10, 2008) – Kevin (K.W.) Seneca of the All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA)
team, Red Dragon Racing, from Irving, New York clinched a third place
national points finish in the S&S Super Sport class to conclude the 2007
season. Only 57 points separated Seneca from the national Super Sport class
championship. This milestone was achieved during K.W.’s first complete year
of competitively drag racing in the 10.30sec. elapsed time (E.T.) dial-in
index Super Sport class on a 99ci XL Evolution developed and tuned by team
sponsor, Gowanda Harley-Davidson Service Department.
Teammate, Bruce Chandler,
finished in the number six spot in the Super Sport class aboard a custom
built, S&S engine powered drag bike. Meanwhile, K.W. also clinched a
seventh place national points finish in 11.50sec. E.T. index of the Screamin’
Eagle Performance Parts class on the team’s third drag racing motorcycle, a
2001 Harley-Davidson CVO Dyna Wide Glide.
Concluding a strong 2007
season, the biggest news came during the Rush Las Vegas Nationals on
November 18, 2007 when K.W. Seneca earned his AHDRA 7.90sec Competitor
License and announced the acquisition of reigning Pro Stock champion, Junior
Pippin’s, Pro Stock class drag racing motorcycle. Red Dragon Racing will be
going pro for the 2008 season.
“It’s
time,” remarks K.W. “It’s harder to drag race when you have to slow down to
get under the index. In the pro classes, it’s the fastest bike to the
finish line.” The team’s new Pro Stock drag bike is a 120ci monster,
breathing through dual S&S Super D carburetors and putting down over 230hp.
Depending on track conditions, estimated quarter mile runs will be in the
low 8 second range at speeds of 155 – 160mph.
The challenge in
professional drag racing is the elimination of the Elapsed Time index. In
E.T. drag racing, any two motorcycles with various modifications can
compete. The two lanes are independently timed and the estimated slower
bike is given a “quote” head start. Whoever comes closest to the E.T.
dial-in index is determined the winner. This is considered an entry-level
method because it helps to even out any mechanical advantage of one bike
over the other. In the professional classes, the skill of winning comes
from teamwork. Each pro class motorcycle is built to AHDRA specifications
and competes on a heads-up, even start basis. The stakes in the pro classes
are higher and the bikes are much faster. It takes a total team effort,
from detailed race analysis, pre-race maintenance, track side tuning and
quick reaction time to win.
Red Dragon Racing is
prepared for the challenges. Throughout their four year history, K.W.
Seneca has developed a committed team that includes the drag racing
experience of teammate Bruce Chandler, the track-side technical assistance
of Gowanda Harley-Davidson’s technician, Tony Koch, logistics and statistics
analysis of crew member, Jimmy Spratz and the managerial direction of crew
chief, Sheila Ray. The dedicated sponsorship from Gowanda Harley-Davidson
Service Department, Seneca Niagara Hotel and Casino, Pa-Pa’s Place I & II
and Haley’s Auto Shop is the key to sustaining the team.
“We’re proud to be
associated with Red Dragon Racing,” says Gowanda H-D Service Manager, Shawn
Mowry. “In 2008, we look forward to maintaining and building K.W.’s Pro
class bikes. We will also be freshening the ET bikes for some local
racing. The Screamin’ Eagle Dyna Wide Glide that Red Dragon Racing started
out with is still my favorite. This bike runs great and we have duplicated
this engine in several customers’ street bikes with great success. The
experience we have gained with Red Dragon Racing and AHDRA goes directly
into the performance work we do everyday for our customers.”
